Why on Earth did I Choose Network Marketing at Age 61?

Eleven & a half years ago I said “yes” to an opportunity that has completely transformed my life but maybe not in the way you might expect so read on!

I said “yes” because I saw a solution; my daughter, who is married to an American, had just had a baby and we knew we needed another income stream if we were going to be able to visit them and there was no way I was going to let my only child & my only grandchild cross the Atlantic and me not be able to visit them because I didn’t have the money. I had no clue what network marketing was, I didn’t know there were so many myths and misunderstandings about it and I had no clue whether I could do it. I was also totally unaware that there were people who did it so badly and gave the industry a bad name and, sadly, that is still the case.

I have now been in the industry for over eleven years and, in this article, I just wanted to share the transformation. There was a lot of hype about what having a network marketing business could do for you financially and I read about the houses, the cars, the clothes, the bags etc and, yes, for some people, that has been their reality. I’ve seen it but it’s not typical. The transformation that I am talking about is not financial .. the extra money has been fabulous and has enabled us to visit our family but that’s it .. at the moment! The pandemic has dumbed down all that rhetoric and it has become much more down to earth.

So it’s not the money that I want to talk about it’s the woman I have become over these past eleven years.

When I started my business I thought I had done self development. I’d been through therapy and had trained as a life coach and that was indeed a powerful & transformational experience so I did think I was sorted. But once I committed myself to my business, and I was over a year in before that happened, I started reading and I was reading personal development, industry specific and leadership books on a daily basis. And through this I have learnt that I am worthy of success. I have grown in self belief, self worth, confidence, self love, the list is endless and I now live from a place of gratitude, love and abundance, rather than scarcity and fear. All of us within the company aim to grow into the best version of ourselves, that way we are better able to help, lead and serve. And whatever happens in the future no one can take that away from me.

Integral to that was resilience. I was only four years in when we reached the celebrated level of vice president, earning the famous white Mercedes. I thought I had made it, this was it, I was at the top. But I was not ready, there was clearly a lack of humility and a lot of ego in just that one sentence. A year later it all collapsed around me, it had gone and I was left with a £400 lease on my car and totally unsure whether I had it within me to rebuild my business back up. But after a short pity party I decided I wasn’t going to let this stop me, I was going to build it back up again, after all I had done it once. And that resilience has been called on big time as we have negotiated a pandemic and still such an uncertain world.

I knew that to build back up again I had to become the person that could build to that level and beyond. I recognised that I wasn’t ready and I kept going with the personal development and through that my leadership has grown. I started to grow in personal awareness so that I uncovered some rather insidious subconscious beliefs about not being good enough. I was able to change those thoughts through my daily affirmation practice and my morning routine now incorporates gratitude, journalling and meditation so that I approach my day with positive and authentic energy.

I have learnt that my business is not about me it’s about all the people I can help and I’ve found that I can help many more people doing this than I ever could in my days as a health visit and my days as a coach. I am able to help people transform their health as mine has been so that they can look and feel better and for those who want it that extra income stream that so many people are looking for in these uncertain times.

If you’re reading this and you know me you probably also know that we are the proud owners of a beautiful home in the `south of France, that came about not because of any fabulous financial reward I was receiving but, I believe, because of that personal development. I had learnt to set goals, to create a vison and, on my vision bard was a villa style property in the Languedoc with a swimming pool and a view over the vines. So it was no surprise to me when we bought a villa style property in the Languedoc with a swimming pool and looking over the vines, even if not the same property. I was good enough to deserve this and when the opportunity arose we grabbed it. And we are so grateful that we have a business that fits around our life and because it’s online we are able to build it when we’re in France as well as when we’e in the UK.

It’s given me purpose or rather helped me find my purpose as I am building a legacy for my daughter and grandson and, for many reasons, I want to build it as big as I can because why not? And I want to leave the world a better place for my grandson and his children so I am grateful every day that I am with a company who is a B Corp and who wants to not only be the best company in the world but the best company for the world. As for the lovely women I work with I want to inspire, encourage & guide them to age well and be healthier so they can live their best lives and I intend to build communities of women who want to contribute to changing the world for the better for their children and grandchildren. Some of these women will be product users and some will be business builders.

And at the grand old age of 73 I am part of a positive community who inspire, encourage and have my back every single day. I am proud to call these fabulous people my friends. These people & running this business and everything that goes with it helps keep me young and I shall be forever grateful

And my dream? To find 6 fabulous, positive minded, good-hearted women who are done with the exchanging time for money business model, who want more for themselves and their families and to live their best lives. They’re women, like me who want to make an impact and leave an amazing legacy. If that’s you I really want to talk to you

And why have I told you all of this, what’s in it for you? I have an online shop open 24/7 for clean vegan products and I know there are people looking for that at the moment and I want you to know that this is a great industry, it can give you that second income stream Even better, it’s designed to work part time and work around your life and other commitments. And if you really go for it it can totally transform your life as it has mine. It is my third career and very definitely the most challenging, the most fun and the most rewarding. So, as Richard Branson says: “If someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you’re not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later.”
